This landmark concept album was the last studio release featuring the classic lineup of David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason before Wright’s departure. The rock opera explores themes of abandonment and personal isolation through the story of Pink, a character inspired by Waters and Syd Barrett.

Conceived during the band's 1977 In the Flesh tour, The Wall reflects Waters’ frustration with audiences and the metaphorical barrier he imagined between the band and their fans. One of the best-selling albums of 1980, it has since sold over 23 million RIAA-certified units, ranking as the third highest-certified album in the United States.
